Taking the plunge – looking for an illustrator

Okay y’all, I am tired of my books sitting in a computer collecting dust. I want to actually publish something and it’s not going to happen unless I venture out of my comfort zone. So I went on Fiverr last night and looked up illustrators. Has anyone ever done this? I am so nervous. As much as I love to write, I don’t have a notion about publishing or self-publishing anything. Years ago, it was find an agent but that doesn’t seem to be so much a thing anymore. Publishing houses most of the time do not accept unsolicited manuscripts. This is all so overwhelming. I am starting this so late in life. It’s important to me to try at least. I am going to start with one of my children’s books I think, one of the easier ones and grow from there. I keep thinking of A. A. Milne, “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” Maybe I am.

Also, I am starting a second blog on board game reviews – coming soon.

  1. You could also try 99designs.com perhaps.
You basically post the detail of your project and a price. Usually just for one page or cover.
You’d probably get a lot of submissions. And then you can either choose a design and designer to continue working with, or ask for a refund.
Just be prepared to provide information about the style you’re looking for and size of the book.
    Hope that helps!

      1. I am! But as a designer, so I am not entirely sure about terms and conditions for clients. But I am sure the site provides that. But from what I have seen, clients have the opportunity to ask for a refund.
Just be sure you don’t get scammed by people submitting stock or AI pictures. It’s not fair to pay for that.
If you ever need verification, I’m happy to do that. I think I have seen them all by now 😅
