Sneak Peak

Want a sneak peak of what I have been working on? No one has read any of this yet because I am procrastinating. Not really, it’s just that working gig work at three different places plus taking care of my house, my family, and my mom has got me too busy to do anything else. And I feel so bad about neglecting my blog. I might rerelease some of the stories I have put on here before, long before I had subscribers. Anyway – here’s a sneak peak.

He pulled the thin blanket up around his shoulders, then shivered as his feet were now uncovered. He wanted to grumble about the ridiculousness of this whole situation, but he kept his thoughts to himself. Surely, they could co-exist in the same bed under warm blankets, while fully clothed, without risking anyone’s virtues. Too cold to sleep, he grew grumpier by the second, staring into the darkness and listening to the night. He could hear her mumbling to herself.

“Good God woman, can’t you be quiet? I’m trying to sleep!”

“I’m just thinking,” she whispered defensively.

“I can hear you thinking!”

“That’s ridiculous! Besides, I’m not really thinking, it helps me sleep.”

“What does?”

“When I can’t sleep, I try to name the fifty states in alphabetical order. There are four a’s, three c’s, one d, one f, one g, one h, four I’s, one l and I think 9 m’s but….” She yawned loudly, “between the m’s and the n’s, I always miss a state or two and I fall asleep trying to remember.”

“That works?”

“Mmm….hmmm,” she replied, her eyes feeling heavy. Without realizing it she snuggled closer to him as she started drifting off to sleep.

An hour later, he laid there, eyes wide in the darkness, “Michigan, Maine, Missouri, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota…. Damn it!”
